Submarine window panes made from PMMA

Commercial submarines now dive into the deep sea and offer their passengers fascinating views through transparent cockpits. The deeper they dare to go, the higher the stresses are on the material, which is exposed to tremendous pressure. Thick-walled PMMA block material based on MERACRYL® MMA is used. It can be produced in large formats and thermally shaped to form hemispheres in one piece.

The flatware shows the reproduction of a stamp with a submarine from the US company “Triton Submarines”. The central spherical shell of the submarine is made from PMMA block material. The wall thickness is 300 mm, enabling diving depths down to 3,000 m to be achieved safely.
